Summer Wright Collins, divisional vice president, Design and Innovation, oversees operations at the C1 Innovation Lab. She previously served as vice president at the Children's Health System of Texas. Summer has extensive experience in research, health care and innovation management.
The C1 Innovation Lab was designed by Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans in Illinois, Montana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas to solve problems differently for our national employers. C1 stands for customer-first culture. We are focused on improving the customer experience and complement existing functions within the company. We are committed to using human-centered design to transform our culture and create a shared view from the member and client perspective.
We use ethnographic research to immerse our organization through the end-to-end experience and take employers on the journey of their employees’ to see how they think, behave, and make decisions. These insights will drive the design of new solutions for our members as we develop and bring them to the market.
The team working at the C1 Innovation Lab is an integrated, collaborative and matrixed group of close to 80 people who represent operational areas such as behavioral health, information technology, service delivery and operations, health care management, client analytics and enterprise national accounts.
Given the rapidly changing health care landscape, it's important that we innovate and continue to explore, nurture and activate future possibilities. The C1 Innovation Lab supplements an already strong and growing foundation of innovation capabilities at our organization. Ideas are sourced inside and outside our company to ensure a healthy pipeline of pursuits.
The C1 Innovation Lab team is focused on improving the customer experience. We complement and partner with existing teams to build upon their success, and continue to infuse innovation into our daily operations. In addition, we continue to harness the innovative ideas of our employees with our C1 Idea Garden.
We're also an active member of the broader health care innovation ecosystem. For example, we're a platinum partner with MATTER , a health care incubator based in Chicago, and we continue to work with vendors to improve the member experience and leverage agile software development methodologies.
